Our minds are full of ideas but often they stay just that… an idea. Lets crack them open, set them free, let them escape our head, flow through our fingertips and turn into something tangible. Show the world who you are; you never know whom you might inspire during the process.
Two Finnish-Norwegian artists, Riitta Ikonen and Karoline Hjorth have taken an idea, put it into practice and captured the result on film. The artist duo is aiming to generate new perspectives on who we are and where we belong, through their ongoing collaborative series, Eyes as Big as Plates.
According to their website, “Each image in the series presents a solitary figure in a landscape, dressed in elements from surroundings that indicate neither time nor place. Here nature acts as both content and context: characters literally inhabit the landscape wearing sculptures they create in collaboration with the artists.”
The artists have collaborated with retired farmers, fishermen, zoologists, plumbers, opera singers, housewives, artists, academics and ninety year old parachutists.
If you were chosen by the duo to inhabit your usual surroundings what would that look like? With Halloween just around the corner your costume inspiration may stem from the idea behind this artwork… who are you?
