Join Explore Wildwood for their two-morning Spring Earth Art classes! They've created a mini series of workshops where parent and child (ages 4+) will be learning together. You will not only be learning new skills, but you'll be making items to take home, and having fun together in the process! In this two-morning workshop, parent and child will attend class together to learn all about making your own earth paints.
DAY ONE (May 3) - We'll be meeting to discuss what makes these DIY watercolor paints special, places to look for your materials, how to responsibly source and forage your materials, safety precautions, and testing for good materials. We'll also collect some items together which will be used in the part II class.
This is an "in the field" class, so we will be outdoors in a park setting. Please dress for the weather, wear good grippy shoes (preferably closed-toe), and protect yourselves from the sun. Restrooms are available on site, but bringing water to drink is recommended. If it's raining this day, our rain date will be the following Wednesday, 5/10. Parents are responsible for their own children during this event. Due to safety reasons, siblings under 4 years will not be permitted unless they are in a carrier or stroller. Location will be in Cobb County, and will be emailed out to participants a few days in advance.
DAY ONE (May 17)- Today we'll be meeting in the classroom (at The PEA Studio) to make our own natural pigments (from our collected materials) from part I. Students will learn how to help make their own earthy watercolor paints from scratch, and then we'll put them to use and paint a picture in class. Families will get to take home their finished paintings, as well as some small containers of pigment to practice with at home. Painting with earthy, handmade pigments is such a therapeutic and fulfilling process, and we're excited to share this process with you.
This class is geared towards children ages 4-14 years old and their parents. If this is your first Earth Art class with us, please arrive 5 minutes early to fill out some forms.
