It starts with water:
Join Jamie Rosenthal from the Shades of Green team to cover practical ways of managing water as a resource in the garden, including passive earthworks, contoured growing beds, and ways to help your soil become your cistern as you build water-holding capacity.
Build health from the ground up:
Learn ways to build soil fertility, including techniques for bed preparation, such as no-till, sheet mulching, and double digging. You will also cover useful tools for the human-scale garden, and appropriate soil amendments, cover crop selection, and composting methods.
Then come the plants:
Learn the how-to's of plant selection, crop rotation planning, and planting specifics. How to mix annuals and perennials without sacrificing production. Let go of the row! This section of the class will also cover seedling preparations, propagation techniques, intercropping guilds and companion plants. Students will head home with seedlings they propagated in the class, ready to plant a productive permaculture veggie garden.
Participants will bring a bag lunch. Class is capped at 15 people.
