Composting Methods

  • Oakhurst Community Garden 435 Oakview Rd Decatur, GA, 30030 United States (map)

Composting is fundamental to a sustainable lifestyle, critical to organic gardening, and an important component in sustainable food systems and in reducing our use of fossil fuels. What’s not to love? Join Michael McLane as we cover the science behind composting, various composting techniques (compost tea, hugelkultur, vermiculture, bokashi), compostable materials, bins, and uses. Participants will leave this class knowing how to build a successful composting system. Even experienced composters will learn something new!

About the Instructor:
Michael McLane is an urban gardening instructor and speaker with 16 years of experience gardening sustainably. An avid proponent of integrated farming and local food systems, Michael also manages the Roswell Farmers & Artisan Market, and volunteers for the Southern Sustainable Agriculture Working Group, Georgia Organics and UGA Cooperative Extension Service.

He is both a UGA Master Gardener and Georgia Master Composter. Michael is a retired technology executive who lives in Roswell with his wife and son.
