Early summer is often a less-than-spectacular time in the southern garden. The riotous show of spring flowers and newly emerging foliage has subsided, but the heat-loving plants of mid-summer haven’t quite kicked in yet. How is one to beat the early June garden blahs? With container gardens!
Container gardening is fantastic for a number of reasons:
- For those of us who are attention-span challenged, it offers a quick way to start AND finish a project in a finite amount of time.
- Container gardens are versatile! They can be tucked into shady patio corners, spotlighted center stage on a terrace dining table, used along balcony railings for privacy screening, or even placed into garden beds to add a seasonal focal point.
- Container gardening embraces plants for full sun, plants for shade, plants for eating, and even plants for indoors.
Join Garden*Hood to touch on all these topics plus discuss what makes for a good container plant, how to group plants of similar light/water needs together, how to space your container plants, and how to provide the best on-going care for plants that spend their lives in pots.
Instructor: Garden*Hood’s own Kacey Cloues. As a gardener with the attention span of a gnat and often no more space than an apartment balcony, Kacey has always had a soft spot for container gardening. She has containers she fusses over, containers she neglects for weeks at a time, and containers that have become permanent fixtures in her landscape. She’s excited to share lessons from her successes and failures and to make container gardening a joyful, unintimidating undertaking for gardeners of all levels and interests.
