Though their work often goes unseen, mushrooms are the gardener’s closest ally and the cook’s best friend. They work around the clock in all seasons creating soil, feeding plants and even fighting diseases.
Join us for a day of fun and exploration as we delve into the secretive world of fungi by learning to cultivate your own delicious mushrooms at home. We’ll harness the transformative power of mushrooms to create healthy delicious food at home using simple and inexpensive materials.
Growing mushrooms at home is simple. In this class you will learn the steps and techniques of growing gourmet mushrooms on logs outdoors. In addition we will discuss mushroom biology and ecology, general mushroom culture methods and how to prepare and store your mushrooms.
Plus, your learning helps the community - we'll be practicing inoculation by helping a local farmer prepare logs for her growing season!
Participants will go home with one outdoor mushroom log made while in the class. Logs produce in 6 months to 1 year after inoculated and continue to yield for several years.
