Indigo Sunrise: Natural Dyeing [SOLD OUT]

  • Kaleidoscope Studios 1026E Atlanta Ave. Decatur, GA 30030 USA (map)

Come share an unforgettable morning with The Homestead Atlanta and a natural dyeing artisan from the local company Thrive. Not only are we bringing back our wildly popular indigo dyeing workshop, we’re making it a delightful morning out complete with sweet and savory snacks, coffee and tea service, and even a brunchy cocktail offering. We’ve never been more psyched to have the blues.

Join us and explore the process by which a leafy green plant becomes dye that, through oxidation, transforms fabric from green to blue before your eyes. Because it doesn’t require chemicals to be lightfast, indigo is a great place to begin discovering the art of natural dyes. Plus, you can share the love when you go home with two beautiful blue silk scarves of your design – one for you, and one as a gift (or two for you, we won’t judge).

Learn about the chemistry of natural dyes, the history of indigo and try your hand at several techniques including plangi shibori, arashi shibori as well as traditional tie, stitch and clamp resists. Design and create your own masterpiece to wear for years to come. Plus, if you have any natural fiber fabrics or yarn at home you’d like to dye, please bring them along!

About the Instructor:
Gretchen is a graduate of the Savannah College of Art and Design with a concentration in Fibers. She seeks anything to ignite her passion, spark her creativity and be spiritually grounding. Having studied Fibers in college, she was naturally attracted to textiles and how easily they could be manipulated with color and form.

Gretchen owns a small business, Thrive, where she continually explores the endless possibilities of dyeing in her studio. The products she produces through Thrive are a reflection of her own personal journey and transformation within her practice of meditation and yoga.
