You can dye with common kitchen staples! Who knew? You will after taking this fun class where you'll be introduced to the concepts of natural dyeing using supplies found at your local grocery store or in your backyard. During the class, we'll:
- learn the basics of natural dyeing - vocabulary, tools, recipes, and safety measures;
- prepare 3 different dye baths with onion skins, avocado, and marigold or black walnut; and
- experiment with silk, wool, and cotton fabrics and a variety of mordants (chemical additives) to extend the range of colors produced by a dye bath.
You'll leave with the recipes and samples from class to start your own dye journal plus the knowledge you need to inexpensively and safely experiment with natural dyes at home. Don't forget your apron!
