Did you know that worms can consume roughly half their weight in organic material each day? Did you know that worm castings make an excellent soil amendment as well as fertilizer?
Join Farmer D Organics for our Vermicomposting Class to explore the wonderful world of worms and learn about the important roles they can play in maintaining a healthy garden and sustainable lifestyle.
In this workshop, we will cover the following topics:
- Vermicomposting... what is it and why should I do it.
- Raising Worms... how to care for your worms, including feeding, watering, and types of bedding.
- Worm Bins... different types of worm bins, including 'home made' as well as commercially available bins.
- Worm Castings... benefits and uses, including how to make worm tea.
The cost of the Vermicomposting class is $15 and a discount is available for Homestead Atlanta members. In exchange you will receive a 1/4 lb container of red wriggler worms to start your own vermicomposting bin plus 10% off all vermicomposting and composting supplies.
The instructor will be Ken Metzel, owner of Hobby Worm Farm. Home to over 20,000 red wriggler worms, Hobby Worm Farm is a local worm farm that provides worms and worm castings to farmers, gardeners, and garden enthusiasts. Hobby Worm Farm also participates in local farmers markets and community gardening events.
