MODA's current exhibition, Making Change: The Art and Craft of Activism, spotlights the work that quilters, knitters, crocheters, embroiderers, and others are doing to call attention to issues of social justice and human rights. One project featured in the exhibition is the Welcome Blanket, a project organized by Jayna Zweiman, designer of the Pink Pussy Hat. The Welcome Blanket Project invites individuals across the nation to hand make blankets that will be gifted to immigrants and refugees arriving in the United States.
You can get involved too! Join us and MODA for a stitch-in on Sunday, August 26, as we work together to create blankets for new neighbors. We'll be stitching this blanket pattern (knit & crochet) in the MODA galleries from 12pm to 4pm. Bring your own materials or use some of ours. If you're able, bring a pre-crocheted or knitted square and we'll use them to create community-sourced blankets for the project.
Join us for the afternoon and sit down and stitch alongside new and old friends. You'll also get a chance to enjoy MODA's inspiring exhibition.
