Know Your Foodshed is a series of classes where we will discuss our local agricultural landscape and hear from farmers, artisans, fellow chefs and nutrition educators on how our food choices create a secure food system. For each class, Ryanne (of Ry's Table) will partner with a new member from our local food system and bring you specially crafted drinks and small bites to make the featured topic shine! Ask burning questions and learn about the process, distribution and preparation of the whole foods these masters of their field cultivate. These classes will connect you with locavore food enthusiast and empower you with the knowledge to make more informed decisions about where and how you source your eats.
In this class we look at our local meat purveyors and why they choose to raise their livestock with sustainable practices. Sorting through the language of grass-fed, all natural, free-range, pasture-raised, non-GMO, antibiotic-free and organic can be confusing and we will remove that barrier by introducing you directly to the farmer who can explain their practices and reasons behind them. Also learn about where to get local butchered meat, working with less popular cuts all while enjoying a fun tasting.
Dive into meat and eggs, small scale sustainable farming with Will Powers from The Pastures of Rose Creek, a 4th generation Georgia family farm located on 345 acres of pastures.
