Join this unique session of Earth Art classes for homeschool kids. We'll focus on the intersection of art and science, discussing how and when art and science may come together to support each other and how this combination can be used for good. We'll focus on Georgia's sea turtles as our scientific subjects, and students will learn a bit about sea turtle biology, nesting behaviors, threats they face, and ways we can help them. We'll role-play as biologists in the field and use (simple) math and science to support our understanding of our subjects. After gaining an understanding and falling in love with these special creatures, we'll use our knowledge and sensibilities to inspire a final work of art.
By the end of the session, students will go home with one final painting or poster design, a turtle craft that they can use to continue their studies with, and a real data sheet which is used in the research field. A list of supplemental books and other materials will be handed out (or emailed) to students as well.
Sessions will be held from 10:30-11:30 AM on Nov 13, Nov 20, Dec 4, and Dec 11.
