Nature Art: Hands On Charcoal

  • Our Giving Garden 75 Cooper Lake Road Southeast Mableton, GA, 30126 United States (map)

We're excited to present one of our favorite topics from our Earth Art classes in this free workshop at Our Giving Garden! The charcoal medium is sustainable, earth friendly, and organic. Charcoal is an important material used in art for drawing and painting, as well as in everyday-use items such as cosmetics and medicines, water filters, and much more. It's also the oldest known drawing medium and has a rich history across cultures. We can help to build a better world by using eco-friendly materials in our art, learning how to make these materials ourselves, and learning how to responsibly source them.

We'll kick off our event with a quick children's story time as we introduce the topic, followed by a discussion on what charcoal is and how it's made, and how it's used in both art and everyday life. We will also be experimenting with various types of drawing charcoal and related tools, and getting creative as we test the medium on paper.

This is an ALL AGES event and is open to the public, but RSVPs are highly recommended so we can be sure to provide enough materials for everyone in attendance.
